Beat Up the Bad Guys, Rescue the Girl

Kung Fu Master can claim a lot of firsts. Originally titled Spartan X in Japan, Kung Fu Master was the first arcade game based on a Jackie Chan movie, which was also titled Spartan X though released as Wheels on Meals elsewhere. Kung Fu Master was also the first side-scrolling beat-'em-up game, leading the way to other popular beat-'em-ups like Double Dragon, and creating the elements that later appeared in one-on-one fighting games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. And, to further cement its place in video game history, Kung Fu Master was one of the first titles to launch the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America, earning an assist in the console's rescue of the video game industry. While nowadays the game may not be quite as well known as the titles it inspired and stood alongside, Kung Fu Master remains an endearing classic.
