Skateboarding Hits the Screen

Released in 1986 and named after one of skateboarding's ultimate tricks, 720 introduced video games to extreme sports, creating a relationship that has lasted well to this day. As a skateboarder living out the dream of skating for life (sometimes literally), you earn points and cash by competing in skating events like the Ramp, the Downhill, the Slalom and the Jump. Tickets are required to enter these events, and tickets are only given when you have enough points. Extra points can be earned between events in Skate City, a land full of ramps, curbs and concrete. You can only stay for so long in Skate City, however, before a swarm of killer bees appears, "encouraging" you to get to the next event!

720 itself hasn't endured as well as other Atari games like Gauntlet or Marble Madness, but its legacy as the world's first skateboarding video game is ensured. Even if for no other reason, the game will be remembered for its catchphrase. "Skate or Die!"
