Apple II Choplifter Review

The Apple II was never exactly known as a gamer's paradise, but back before 1982, it was barely recognized as a gaming machine at all. That changed with Choplifter, and for good reason. Despite its minimalist graphics and almost nonexistent sound, Choplifter perfectly harnesses the hardware to deliver an engaging, unique game, where rescue is most important and no reward is given for killing. Everything and everybody moves realistically, from the enemy jets in the air to the hostages on the ground. The player's helicopter is easily and intuitively controlled, yet is also a very versatile machine thanks to the Apple II's standard analog joystick. And even with only one "level" of play that seems relatively easy to master, Choplifter is addictive, proving that rescuing the good guys can feel a whole lot better than killing the bad guys. This one is highly recommended as one of the best games the Apple II has to offer.
