Choplifter Geneology

1982 - Choplifter - Rescue hostages held behind enemy lines, while avoiding or engaging the enemy ships sent to stop you! Originally released for the Apple II, Choplifter was quickly ported to several other home computers after it became a hit. Four years later, Sega turned Choplifter into an arcade game, making it one of the very few games to follow the reverse path from homes to arcades.

1991 - Choplifter II - This Nintendo Game Boy exclusive features the same basic game play as the original, with more enemies and even birds getting in the way of your rescues. Extra weaponry is also provided to help in your quest.

1994 - Choplifter III - Another Game Boy game, this is basically Choplifter II with enhanced graphics. A port for the Sega Game Gear was released the following year.

1994 - Choplifter III: Rescue Survive - A different "III" was published for the Super Nintendo. Four levels of helicopter search and rescue are fleshed out with occasional boss battles.

2012 - Choplifter HD - The original author of Choplifter had a hand in this sort-of 3D remake for the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3. Rescuing hostages is still the point of the game, but why you're rescuing them from changes from level to level. At one point you're even saving people from the zombie apocalypse!
