Star Raiders Geneology

1979 - Star Raiders - Patrol the galaxy and protect your starbases from enemy attack. Keep an eye on your ship's health and make sure you don't run out of energy before you can refuel!

1986 - Solaris - This Atari 2600 sequel was programmed by the same author as the Atari 8-bit original. Now you're off to find the lost planet of Solaris, while the enemy Zylons seek to conquer the galaxy and destroy all Federation planets, not just the starbases!

1986 - Star Raiders II - Ironically, the original designer and Atari 8-bit author of Star Raiders was not involved in its Atari 8-bit sequel, even though he did create Solaris for the Atari 2600. Star Raiders II was originally commissioned to be a movie tie-in with The Last Starfighter. Ironically again, Solaris almost became a tie-in with the same movie, but in Solaris's case the game was not originally intended as such. After the industry crash, the tie-ins with The Last Starfighter were abandoned, and both games were eventually modified and released with new names. Star Raiders II was later ported to several other home computers, making it the only game in the "Star Raiders" series to be released for systems other than Atari's.
