The Flame Spirit can be found once enough diamonds are collected, but even then the spirit remains hidden, visible only as the faintest of flickers. Your flashlight will help reveal the spirit's hiding place. Music will guide you as well, playing more loudly the closer you get.

In the higher skill levels you must act quickly to find the Flame Spirit. If you don't, the Spirit disappears again, and you must collect a new batch of diamonds to bring it back out.
