Like in other games, ships can be earned by scoring enough points, but Tac/Scan also gives you the chance to bring rogue ships into the squadron. Just steer them to an empty spot in the squadron when they appear.

Tac/Scan is also unusual in that the game will end if all ships in the squadron are destroyed, even if you still have ships in reserve. Keep a close eye on your fighters!
