Arcade Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Review

In the early 1980s, before every big budget-action movie was required to have its own video game, tie-ins appeared only when the game companies decided they were worth making. The resulting games tended to be more inspired, and actually worth playing. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is a perfect example of this, an excellent scrolling adventure game released at a time Atari Games could do no wrong. Great graphics, incredible sound that included digitized speech from the movie (still a novel concept in 1985), and engaging game play made this one a classic.

It's a real shame that the required movie license has kept Temple of Doom out of the arcade game collections released for newer consoles. This one really deserves a spotlight, even without possibly being the only video game that actually improved on the movie it was based on!
