Arcade Tetris Review

This arcade game by Atari Games actually came out after Tetris had become popular on home computers. Still, Atari Games did manage to add a few new features to give people a reason to come to the arcade. Of course, arcade games don't make money if people can play games lasting upwards of fifteen to twenty minutes, so Atari Games also upped the difficulty.

Instead of the simple task of trying to clear as many rows as possible, arcade Tetris is divided into levels, each requiring the player to clear a set number of rows. The first level plays normally, but as the game progresses, the levels become more challenging, sometimes starting with blocks already on screen, and sometimes even adding random blocks after the level has started. Arcade Tetris also features a two-player variation, allowing friends to compete against each other for the fastest level completions.

The graphics are sufficient, with a handful of neat extras such as the dancing Russian who congratulates you at the end of each level. Ethnic flavored background music adds to the Russian motif.
