The Geneology of Jones

Indy has inspired even more video games than he has movies and TV shows. Some are based directly on Indy's appearances on screen, while others offer more original stories.

1982 - Raiders of the Lost Ark - The first Indiana Jones movie led to the first Indiana Jones video game, released for the Atari 2600. Players guide Indy on his Egyptian search for the Ark of the Covenant.

1984 - Indiana Jones in the Lost Kingdom - The first Indiana Jones game not based on any movie or TV show was a game of puzzles for the Commodore 64.

1984 - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - The second movie became the first and only Indiana Jones arcade game, developed by Atari Games. Indy is pitted against the evil Thuggee cult and their leader, priest Mola Ram.

1987 - Indiana Jones in Revenge of the Ancients - The Apple II and DOS PC computers saw this text-based adventure. In the story written exclusively for the game, Indy travels to Mexico in hopes of finding an ancient artifact before the Nazis do.

1989 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - The story of Indy's search for the Holy Grail actually led to six different games being released for various systems. The first two, subtitled The Graphic Adventure and The Action Game were developed by LucasArts and released together in 1989. In later years, the NES saw two distinct games based on the movie, followed by two more unique releases for portable sysems, one for the Game Gear and one for the Game Boy.

1992 - Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - LucasArts again created two games from this title, but this time the story was an original. The Graphic Adventure and The Action Game both put Indy in another race against the Nazis to recover an ancient artifact.

1992 - The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles - The first game based on the Indiana Jones TV show puts Indy in the middle of the Mexican Civil War. The NES saw the only port of this game.

1994 - Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures - This SNES title features gameplay based on the first three movies.

1994 - Young Indiana Jones: Instruments of Chaos - The Sega Genesis saw the second game to come from the TV show, with Indy battling more Nazis. Never mind Indy is supposed to be an adult by the time the Nazis come to power...

1996 - Indiana Jones and his Desktop Adventures - Developed for the PC and Macintosh, this title gave modern computer gamers a chance to join Indy on some new adventures.

1999 - Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine - Indy's first 3D game finds him battling evil Russians for a change. This title also brings back an Indy ally, first seen in The Fate of Atlantis.

2003 - Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb - An original title with more Nazis chasing after the globetrotting Indy as he searches for the tomb of China's first emperor.

2008 - LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures - Indy and other characters from the first three movies get the LEGO treatment. A sequel appeared the following year, featuring all four movies.

2009 - Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings - This time Indy is searching for the staff Moses used to part the Red Sea. Of course the Nazis want it too.
